Executive in Residence, Media

Mr. Burnham is an experienced investment and operations executive who has led investment, large and small-scale operational and corporate strategy efforts in senior roles across a wide range of media platforms.  He targets direct acquisitions, spinoffs, or carveouts in the media and communications sectors for Kamylon in advance of working with them to further grow their businesses.

Mr. Burnham most recently was a Managing Director at Discovery Equity Partners, an activist investment fund managed by the Discovery Group.  In this role, Matt researched, evaluated and recommended investment opportunities, and also led fundraising and relationship management for the firm.  Matt previously was a Managing Partner at a TMT-focused hedge fund affiliate of Star Media Group, focused on the worldwide broadcast, publishing, cable/satellite television, and marketing services sectors.

Mr. Burnham spent the prior seven years with Tribune Company in senior investment and operating roles, most recently as the Chief Financial Officer of amNewYork.  Matt joined amNewYork from WPIX-TV, Tribune’s $200 million flagship CW station in Manhattan.  He was recruited by Tribune Broadcasting’s CFO to manage the station’s finance and planning functions.  Matt also oversaw $15 million in capital spending as well as $70 million in broadcast rights.  Prior to his operating roles, Matt co-founded the Tribune Ventures East Coast office, where he co-managed evaluation of all East Coast-based investment opportunities for Tribune Company.

Before receiving his MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1997, Matt graduated from Northwestern University in 1993 as a member of the Dean’s List and several national honor societies, with a B.A. in history.
