Inclusion of KMS
team members early throughout the deal evaluation and diligence processes
mitigated several known risks and set in motion a plan to transform the business
management capability was also crucial: recruiting, evaluating and incentivizing
instructors, senior managers, and middle management.
Other KMS tools applied include: value-stream
analysis, constraint (bottleneck) analysis, statistical analysis of quality
drivers, kaizen events, 360 evaluations, goal deployment, 5S and visual

Perhaps most noteworthy is how these continuous improvement practices were
systematically modeled, understood, embraced, and utilized daily by the TransPac
team from top to bottom.
Outdoors – designs, manufactures, markets and distributes bowhunting
products -- including broadheads, quivers, and nocks -- under the Rage, Muzzy
and Nockturnal brands. Kamylon
acquired the brands, product lines, IP and some tangible assets in three
acquisitions, in two cases without any management or infrastructure in carve
outs from a parent company. Unlike
TransPac, each acquisition was a profitable, growing, market leader.
Nevertheless, the investment faced several challenges including but not limited
challenges were identified prior to closing and a KMS Team put detailed action
plans in place prior to the completion of diligence.
As it turned out, the greatest challenge was unforeseen by Kamylon or, for that
matter, anyone in the industry.
Following the March close, the company was pacing ahead of projections through
September, but the bowhunting season opened later and was markedly softer than
any in memory. Without KMS it would
have been impossible to have managed this black swan event while growing
revenues and increasing market share approximately 30%, introducing new
products, and maintaining healthy profitability.
KMS tools applied
included: constraint (bottleneck)
analysis, supply chain planning tools, supplier PPAP process, quality management
tools, daily production meetings, kaizen events, analysis and planning, product
development workflow, 360 evaluations, goal deployment, root cause analysis,
among others. Talent management as
always played a pivotal role recruiting and retaining some of the most talented
managers and associates in the industry.
